Riding through this area, you will have the opportunity to taste great wines such as Medoc, Cote de Blaye, Cote de Bourg, Bordeaux Superior, Bordeaux Lalande, Pomerol, Saint-Emilion, Cadillac, Graves, Sauternes. You will ride through landscapes of some of France’s richest architectural land, You will pass near picturesques farms, rolling meadows, ancient villages, churches and castles. The ride is done in both directions: Entre-Deux-Mers to Moulis or the opposite direction on certain dates: see the calendar.

ENTRE-DEUX-MERS TO MOULIS EN MEDOC
INDICATIVE ITINERARY:

Day 1: Meeting at Bordeaux airport at 6:30 p.m., or directly at the first accommodation.

image-20220812155428-1Day 2: This day ride will take you through the Entre-deux-mers region, with its varied, hilly, wooded landscapes and beautiful vineyards. You pass by the 13th-century Château de Rauzan before arriving at the picnic area. In the afternoon, you continue through the Bordeaux vineyards, returning to Château du Courros (Bordeaux Supérieur) for a wine tasting. Built on the grounds of a pre-6th-century, religious community dedicated to Saint Vincent (said to be the patron saint of winegrowers), Château du Courros lies a few kilometers south of St. Emilion. Overnight stay and dinner in a B&B in Ruch.

Day 3: This morning, you follow the Dordogne until Merlande. Through the vines, you take the direction of Saint Emilion where you have lunch. Yiu see the castle of Pavie, Premier Grand Cru classified. Picnic at Château Franc-Mayne in Saint Emilion. Franc-Mayne is a Grand Cru Class wine. On the Franc coast, to which it owes its name, the castle has 7 hectares of vines. The ancient Gallo-Roman road runs alongside the vineyard. An old post relay bears witness to the passage of pilgrims to Saint-Jacques de Compostela. Tasting and discovery of the underground cellars over 2 hectares. In the afternoon, you see the famous properties of Château Petrus, Cheval Blanc and Château Figeac to arrive in the Pomerol appellation where you leave the horses. Overnight stay and dinner at the hotel.

image-20220812155043-3Day 4: The morning is free. You can enjoy Saint Emilion. This unusual medieval town opens its doors all year round to adventurers, wine lovers and the simply curious. A city steeped in history, perched on a rocky promontory, Saint-Émilion and its vineyards draw their originality from the limestone that has shaped their identity. This is evidenced by the 200 km of underground galleries that provided the limestone needed for the construction of many of the region's buildings, including Bordeaux. You picnic where you left the horses the day before on the Château Le Gay property. In the afternoon, you ride through vineyards interspersed with small woods to Château Mayne-Veil (Fronsac), where you leave the horses. Overnight stay and dinner at the hotel in Libourne.

Day 5: During this day, you head towards Mouillac at through varied landscapes of vineyards, meadows and forests. Picnic at the small Romanesque church of Mouillac, where you will have time to find the 9 canonical dials. The day continues towards Cubnezais. The landscape here is shared between the appellation vineyards “Blaye - Côtes de Bordeaux” and the forest, made up of pines and hardwoods. At the end of the day, you leave the horses at the estate de la Gravette. Night and dinner in a guest room in Civrac de Blaye.

Day 6: This morning, you cross the Côtes de Bourg in a hilly landscape. Picnic at Château Lamothe (Côte de Bourg) and wine tasting Departure around 3 p.m. direction of the Citadel of Blaye. You enter on horseback in the 18th century Vauban citadel (visit). It keeps intact the defense system put in place in place by Vauban with its 1.5 km of ramparts, its gates and its underground passages as well as the buildings necessary for the proper functioning of a garrison: former convent, prison, barracks, powder shop. Overnight at the hotel and dinner in Blaye.

image-20220812155304-5Day 7: After breakfast, you cross the Gironde, with our horses, on the ferry, towards Lamarque and Medoc (about 40 mins). You walk through the Medoc vineyards to get to your picnic in Moulis en Médoc. Free afternoon, tasting at Château Maslescasse (Haut-Médoc). Located in Lamarque, between Margaux and Saint-Julien, Château Malescasse was built in 1824 in the purest neo-classical style. Night and dinner in a guest room in Moulis en Medoc.

Day 8: After breakfast, transfer to Bordeaux airport.

MOULIS EN MEDOC TO ENTRE-DEUX-MERS
INDICATIVE ITINERARY:

Day 1: Welcome of the riders either at Bordeaux airport at 6:30 pm. Transfer to the guesthouse in Moulis en Médoc.

image-20220812155304-5Day 2: Breakfast at 8 a.m., transfer to the horses at 9 a.m. and departure of the ride at 10 a.m. in a flat landscape between vineyards and forests. The picnic takes place on the banks of the Gironde. Tasting at Château Maslescasse (Médoc) after lunch. We cross the Gironde, with the mounts, on the ferry, in the direction of Blaye (duration 40 mn). You enter on horseback into the 18th century Vauban citadel (visit). Night at the hotel.

Day 3: Breakfast at 8 a.m., departure from the hotel at 9 a.m. and riding at 10 a.m. You cross the Côtes de Blaye and the Côtes de Bourg in a hilly landscape. Picnic with a producer at Château Lamothe and tasting of Côte de Bourg. Departure around 3 p.m. towards Cubnezais through a flatter landscape, with passages in wetlands without vineyards. The evening takes place at the winegrower of the Domaine de la Gravette (Bordeaux wine). Tasting during the meal. Night on site.

bordeaux a chevalDay 4: Breakfast at 8 a.m., departure on horseback at 9:30 a.m. It is a region of vineyards interspersed with small woods that takes you to Château Mayne-Veil (Fronsac), for a picnic and tasting of a Fronsac wine. In the direction of Libourne, you cross the famous region of Pomerol at the end of the day. You leave the horses in the town of Pomerol. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 5: You take the direction of Saint Emilion, we see the famous properties of Chateau Petrus, Cheval Blanc and Château Figeac. Picnic at Château Coutet in Saint Emilion, followed by a free visit of the town. In the afternoon, you leave Saint Emilion to cross the wide valley of the Dordogne and arrive not far from the Château de Courros (Bordeaux Supérieur) for a tasting. Night in guesthouse

rando cheval bordelaisDay 6: Breakfast at 8 a.m., departure on horseback around 9:30 a.m. You are now in the Entre-deux-mers region, with its varied, hilly, wooded landscapes and its beautiful wine properties. You pass near the castle of Rauzan, dating from the 13th century. In the afternoon, a course half-vineyard half-forest and slightly hilly leads you to the Château du Broustaret (guest rooms). You share dinner in the city of Cadillac where you taste the Premiers Côtes de Bordeaux.

Day 7: Breakfast at 8 a.m., departure on horseback at 9:30 a.m. Up to Cadillac, the area is steeply hilly. Then you pass the Garonne valley to reach the Graves and Sauternes vineyards. Picnic at the Château de Myrat, you visit the cellar followed by a tasting of this golden wine. In the afternoon, gallops between vineyards and almost Landes forest lead you to Sauternes. Night at the hotel.

Day 8: After breakfast, transfer to Bordeaux airport.

SAUTERNES TO MOULIS EN MEDOC
INDICATIVE ITINERARY:

Day 1: Meeting at Bordeaux airport at 6:30 p.m., or directly at the hotel in Sauternes.

image-20220812155428-1Day 2: Breakfast at 8 a.m., departure on horseback at 9:30 a.m. In the morning, canters between vineyards and almost Landes forest, lead you to Chateau Myrat for a picnic. You visit the cellar followed by a tasting of this golden wine. In the afternoon, a slightly hilly half-vineyard, half-forest trail, takes you to the Chateau du Broustaret (guesthouse) where you share dinner and taste the fiorst Cotes de Bordeaux.

Day 3: You are now in the Entre-Deux-Mers region, with its varied, hilly, wooded landscapes and beautiful properties wine-growing. You pass near the castle of Rauzan, dating from the 13th century. Afternoon, you continue through the Bordeaux  vineyard to arrive not far from the Chateau de Courros (Bordeaux Superieur) for a tasting. Night in a guesthouse.

Night at the hotel.

The picnic is at the foot of the Saint Seurin church and its panoramic dome. Tasting at Chateau Maslescasse (Medoc). You continue through the rows of Medoc vines to end your ride in Moulis-en Médoc. Night in a guesthouse.

Day 8: After breakfast, transfer to Bordeaux airport.

MEETING/DEPARTURE

Saturday evening directly at the first accommodation. Optional transfer from Bordeaux airport (6 p.m.).

DEPARTURE:
Saturday morning after breakfast. Optional transfer to Bordeaux airport. Book a flight after 12 p.m.

TRANSFERS:
No transfer from/to Bordeaux train station: take the shuttle bus to the airport. (30 mins. Price: €8).
Return transfers Bordeaux airport: 20 € to be paid directly on site.

Riding

RIDING LEVEL: :randonnée à cheval Périgord
This is an active trail ride: to participate, you must be a very good rider: comfortable at walk, posting trot, posting canter, outdoor on open spaces, being able to stay 6-7 on horseback, cantering over long distances, having a trail ride experience, knowing how to control your horse in an open environment. Maximum weight: 90kg.
If the guide judges that a rider does not have the required level, he will not be able to continue riding. He can continue the stay with the logistics. In this case, the rider must then pay 300 € for the repatriation of his horse, without any refund of the stay.

GUIDE & ASSISTANT:
A qualified English speaking guide and an assistant ensuring the preparation of midday meals and luggage transfers with an assistance vehicle.
