Menorca trail will take you to deserted beaches, hidden caves and will show you the wildnest coast of the less touristic Balearic island.

Itinerary
Programme intro

INDICATIVE ITINERARY :

Day 1. Arrival (Sunday) - You will arrive to Barcelona. We will meet at the hotel at 7:30 pm. Before dinner, we will go over the week program. You will be told about the special characteristics of our Andalucian trail horses. You will be given an introduction to the week´s programme with an opportunity for a one-to-one conversation designed to find every rider their perfect horse. Then, we are going to enjoy a fantastic dinner !

Day 2. Collserola Natural Park (Monday) / 6-7 hours. Transfer from Barcelona to the equestrian center in Collserola. Today, you will pass through forests and meadows where you will enjoy long gallop and nice canters. The mountain range of Collserola rises up like a watchtower in the middle of the metropolitan area of Barcelona. A magnificent local but also familiar and valuable massif. A good privilege for a big population that lives around it. More than 8.000 natural protected spaces, where all the forest places predominate this area, with a variety of vegetal formation which counters a valuable biological variety. It represents a soft sufficiently asymmetrical relief: while the mountain peaks of the valley are large and have a soft descent, the oriental inclinations at the sea are very short and have also a notable inconsistent. The fauna consists about different kinds of birds like the sparrow, the warbler and the black woodpecker, the wild boar that live in herd had reproduced too much of theirselves that they have to live with the urban population, just like the predatory bird and the squirrels.

Day 3. Natural Park of Garraf and the coast (Tuesday) / 6-7 hours. Today, we will meet early for breakfast. The terrain is excellent for fast paces, here the riders and the horses enjoy the long trots and fast gallops. The park of Garraf is located in the south-west of Cordillera, the coastal area of Catalana. It’s limits are at the underneath valley of Llobregat, at the Mediterranean and the lowering of Penedés. It occupies an extension of 12820 hectare. The national park is divided up in two well-differenced geological areas: one part consists about limestones and dolomites, and a smaller part consists about a reddish earthward on the oriental side of the park. A great part of Garraf offers us a southern Mediterranean landscape. The vegetation that characterizes this landscape is a dense undergrowth with a height of about one meter, there the oak and the lentisk trees dominate this zone, in addition many plants like the rebead plant or the jugara and many other which have an African origin.

Day 4. To Menorca (Wednesday). Breakfast and departure to the aiport. Flight to Menorca and arrival to Menorca. Catalina will pick you up at Menorca aiport to go to Ciutadella, where you will stay for the first night. Diner altogether and presentation of the trail.

Day 5. Dry Menorca (Thursday) / 6-7 hours. Breakfast and preparation of horses. Leaving from “Eugues de Flo” towards Torre del Ram. You wil be able to observe the different traditional buildings of the countryside. The most representative ones are the endless dry walls, as well as the huts for the animals. We will reach Cala Morell, there we will stop for a picnic at the Caves of Cala Morell, on the North coast of Minorca. This is the location of one of the most important archaeological sites of the island, the necropolis of Cala Morell, containing a set of fourteen caves caved out of the cliff-edge artificially. This necropolis also has twenty small oval-shaped cavities or niches, known as “capades de moro”, which may have been used as ossuaries, urns or for the children burring. After regaining some energy, we will continue along the route to Son Àngel. Their, we will take the saddles off the horses, and riders will be able to have a refreshment and discover the facilities and other horses on the farm. You will also be able to admire one of the pure-bred Minorcan studs which is so representative of our land. After that, you will ride to the Biniatram Agro tourism farm, were you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 6. The Tramuntana Route (Friday) / 6-7 hours. Breakfast at Biniatram and transfer to Son Àngel to get the horses ready for the next ride. During this day, you will pass by the Pla de Mar to the Cala Pilar virgin beach, where you will enjoyr a fresh water source. The clean, intense, blue water contrasts with the red rocks and the yellow sand, creating the landscape that best identifies the northern coast of Minorca. This trail goes along one of the most abrupt parts of the north coast, with a continued series of elevations and depressions. At “Els Alocs” and Son Ermità where you will be offered a typical farmer’s lunch (or a picnic at Els Alocs as an alternative). You will continue after lunch towards Cala’n Calderer, Cala Barril, Pregonda and you will then take a turn towards the farm of Sant Vicent where you will leave the horses and then be transferred to Biniatram, to have supper and spend the night.

Day 7. Minorca wildest coast (Saturday) / 6-7 hours. Breakfast and transfer to Sant Vicent. You will get the horses ready and star off towards Binimel là and Cap de Cavalleria. This trail goes along one of the best preserved areas of the Minorca coastline. After leaving Binimel la Beach, the path goes inland between croplands and stone walls to Cavalleria beach. You will be able to discover impressive dune systems where vegetal communities grow. Opportunity to visit the Cap de Cavalleria Ecomuseum before the picnic in Cala Viola. Afther lunch, the trail mainly borders the coastline along paths with colourful contrasts, weirdly shaped rocks and imposing cliffs. Then you will ride to Cala Tirant and you will end the day at Port Fornells hostel, a familiar accommodation, where the owners have horses and participate in the Island festival of “Jaleo”.
