Horseback riding trail ride in Italy - A horseback trail ride in Tuscany to discover the incredible diversity of landscapes and sights of Tuscany . In the heart of this colorfull region, between mountains, valleys, hills and forests. you will discover the ridges of the Siena Mountains or « Siena’s costum », which were until the year 1800, the border between the great duchy of Tuscany and the Papal State. This active ride takes riders through some of the most pristine and lovely parts of Tuscany. The paths and trails are scenic and around every bend is a new village situated on the hillside, or a panoramic view of the rolling hills dotted with the noble Cypress trees.
HORSEBACK TRAIL RIDE IN TUSCANY
INDICATIVE ITINERARY *
Sunday: Arrival in the evening before dinner, at the Sovana hotel. Metting with your guide, presentation of your ride.
Monday: Short transfer to the horse riding center by car (1 km). Departure on horseback near the “Citta del Tufo” archaeological park, cradle of Etruscan civilization, towards the small town of Castell’Ottieri and its ancient medieval fortress where we stop for lunch. In the afternoon, we cross the small village of San Giovanni delle Contee on horseback before arriving at the medieval village of Proceno. Arriving in Proceno, we change region, from the Tuscany to the Lazio. Dinner and night in an agriturismo in Proceno.
Tuesday: Departure after breakfast to the beautiful medieval village of Radicofani, and after 3-4 hours on horseback towards the North, we return again to Tuscany, in the Siena Province. A ride along the typical hills of the Sienese landscape. We stop along the trail to enjoy a hearty picnic with stunning views of the Tuscan countryside and the Radicofani fortress. We finally arrive on horseback in Radicofani after crossing the small village of Celle sul Rigo. Evening meal and night in an agriturismo in Radicofani.
Wednesday: Departure of the horseback riding around 10am for a short morning loop around Radicofani which allows us to enjoy unique landscapes: we are very close to Val d'Orcia, the center of Sienese Tuscany along the ridges with the fortress of Radicofani as a landmark that we see up to 20 kms around. Lunch break in a restaurant. In the afternoon, short return on horseback to Radicofani. Visit the village and the fortress, then you can relax at the swimming pool in the agriturismo before dinner.
Thursday: Back riding on Proceno by a completely different path. The whole descent is on one of the most beautiful ridges in Tuscany from where we see Celle sul Rigo to our left, Castell'Azzara and Proceno and then we continue on the road to ancient 
Cassia. In the evening we return on horseback to the agriturismo of Proceno. Dinner and night.
Friday: Friday: Departure of the ride towards San Quirico, passing through the small hamlet of Prato Lungo. Picnic break in Vitozza: an Etruscan necropolis next to San Quirico where more than 200 caves are to be visited. We are inside the archaeological park of Città del Tufo. In the afternoon, descent by a superb track in a canyon, to join the Lente river which we cross several times taking advantage of its freshness. We continue the ride to return quietly to the equestrian center. Dinner and night at the Sovana hotel.
Saturday: End of the trip after breakfast.

Everything was perfect.
Orfeo: adorable, goes everywhere. The other members of the family rode Danubio, Flicka and Nicki, all super nice and safe horses. The same goes for Spritz, a real 4/4 full of energy that Daniel and I rode on the last day.
Comfortable saddles.
Magnificent accommodation, special mention for the Proceno castle and its adorable hostess who showed us around.

The staff was excellent. The guide was fantastic ! He was caring and conscientious with the horses as well as the guests. He loaded with enthusiasm and fun, and supported the rides very well. I loved my little horse (Bimbo) ! Solid, comfortable gaits, knew his job. Accommodations: Wonderfully interesting, comfortable lodgings. Great food. Had a fantastic time despite the poor weather on 3 of the days.
We come back from Tuscany and are delighted with our ride: the horses are fantastic, the horse riding very well organized. The landscapes are fantastic, the light is magic ... Where to begin? Our ride through Tuscany was both magical and unforgettable. My mother and I went to celebrate a very special birthday and it could not have been more special! The horses were extremely well taken care of, well behaved, groomed, and sweet. You can see that the guide really loves each of them and knows each one of them very well. The hotels and B&B's were very nice and the food.....oh the food was absolutely spectacular! Our favorite town was Proceno where we met Pucci and her wonderful husband Giovanni. We dined at their amazing Michelin star restaurant and ate the most incredible black truffle ravioli one could imagine. After sipping champagne and wonderful wine we sat by the fireplace and Pucci told us about her life and her families history. All this and we got to sleep in a castle! The riding was spectacular. Long gallops and trots with beautiful scenery of every genre. The entire trip felt like a movie. We loved spending time with our guide and Serena. Overall, I would highly recommend this trip to anyone looking for adventure, fabulous food, even better wine, and memories that will last a lifetime!
