A horseback ride along the Catalan coast, through the landscapes of the Empordà and its coast. Beaches, meadows, and paths that will allow you to discover the Costa Brava. Beautiful landscapes and a great artistic heritage. This region was voted one of the best destinations in the world in 2012 by National Geographic Traveler magazine. You ride through the Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de l'Empordà. The park is located on marshy land, serving as a refuge for mainly aquatic birds. More than 300 different species are present there. You ride to the magnificent mouth of La Gola de Ter and its view of the Medes Islands, now converted into a protected natural area. Beaches, sand, naturally formed dunes, beautiful villages, castles and churches await you. Discover the medieval sites of Peratallada, Torroella de Montgrí, and stroll along two sandy beaches. Exciting galloping experience by the sea.

HORSEBACK TRAIL RIDE IN CATALUNIA
INDICATIVE ITINERARY *

image-20221011131545-2Day 1: Welcome ! In the evening you arrive at the horse farm. After a home cooked dinner, presentation of the program for the week and we will talk about the characteristics of our Spanish and Arabian cross horses. Individualized conversation to find the ideal horse for each rider.

Day 2: Today, after breakfast, a short briefing with your guide and preparing your horse, you are ready to start your adventure. You leave Vilafreser crossing an oak forest, accompanied by smells of thyme and rosemary. Your destination today is Besalú: a fortified medieval village. This ancient capital is a jewel of Romanesque architecture located between two rivers. You travel many kilometers in the wild nature of Garrotxa, through fields, open meadows and forests. Your hotel is opposite the spectacular medieval bridge and you have time to wander around and soak up the unique atmosphere of this special village.

image-20231115164138-1Day 3: In the morning you depart from Besalú towards the surrounding forest and hills. You cross a typically Mediterranean forest. It is a rocky area with old buildings of traditional rural architecture, such as shepherds' shelters and small stone walls. Until the Fluviá, from the hills to the plains, you gallop along olive groves and wheat fields. Your destination is an interesting Catalan farmhouse restored with historical respect for the protected buildings. After installing the horses in the paddocks waiting for them, you enjoy a rest at the swimming pool or in the gardens before a delicious dinner.

Day 4: After an excellent breakfast, you find the horses, you get back in the saddle, and you begin your journey image-20221011175311-2west, towards Vilafreser. Although it is a prosperous region, the Empordá region still retains the traditional rural and village way of life. The paths and tracks have not been paved, nor has the countryside been fenced: so there is a limitless combination of footpaths and bridleways to explore.

Day 5: Today is a long day in the saddle. You leave the horse farm heading west and enjoy long gallops through the pine forests of Alt Empordà. Every hour you pass a beautiful village, a castle, churches, arches, a tunnel, old wooden doors with wrought iron knockers...the stone beauty of the past. As the afternoon progresses you feel the proximity of the coast and you finally arrive at the great Gulf of Roses. The support team is waiting for you and has prepared everything for the horses to rest. For dinner: a delicious paella to complete this extraordinary day.

image-20221011175157-1Day 6: After an early start, you trot down to the beach. The long curve of Rosas Bay stretches out before you, miles of golden sand! You enjoy excellent gallops on the beach, then you head inland again along the Fluviá river, passing a bird sanctuary where you can observe migratory birds. The land is flat, with many rice fields and peach, pear and apple orchards. The pace today is lively! After the picnic in a forest of holm oaks, you head back to the horse farm. Accommodation at the horse farm.

Day 7: After breakfast you head south through the Catalan Mediterranean landscape, passing through the small villages of Galliner and Vilamarí. You benefit from spectacular views of the coastal plains and foothills of Empordà. After crossing a forest of pine and oak trees, you stop to rest and have your picnic. For the last part of the day, take a gentle ride to finally reach the horse farm, where you can shower your horse and enjoy a delicious dinner.

Day 8: End of your ride in Spain, departure or transfer to the airport.

Reviews
GUEST REVIEWS
Camille (Switzerland) – November 2019

Reception: Super welcome from the manager, very caring, with home cooked meals at all meals. We even had a Catalan dessert cooked in front of us the last evening.
Cavalry: The general condition of the cavalry (Excellent). My horse (Excellent). Well-treated, well-fed horses that evolve in a healthy outdoor environment.
Saddlery & Equipment: Excellent. Endurance material, Wintec synthetic saddle, good condition.
The comfort, cleanliness and comfort of the accommodation (s): Excellent. Very nice cottage, spacious room with bathtub.
Your general satisfaction on the stay: Excellent stay with very attentive staff, nice and well-treated horses and various landscapes every day!
Quality of the Cap Rando services: Excellent. Good follow-up of our file despite our many discussions, listening to our desires and constraints, we recommend Cap Rando! Only small point of improvement: we asked for a paying transfer and asked if another option was possible: we were told that we could rent a car. However, we discovered when arriving on site by the service provider that it was possible to take a train to access a closer town, which would have reduced the cost of the transfer. To reconsider for the next customers.
