HORSEBACK RIDING TRAIL RIDE IN ANDALUCIA
INDICATIVE ITINERARY *
Day 1: Arrival for your horseback ride in Andalusia. Transfer from Almeria airport, bus station or train station. Presentation, dinner and overnight in a hotel in San José.
Day 2: San José - Genoveses Beach - Monsul, Media Luna: without any doubt, the last Mediterranean wild beache, with their white sand dunes, shooting sites for many famous movies: Indiana Jones, Lawrence of Arabia, For a Fistful of Dollars. For lunch, picnic at the foot of the “El Romeral” cortijo, one of the typical facilities that once served as accommodation for the local farmers. In the afternoon, you ride up through the “Del Tesorillo” valley. You go back to your hotel in San José.
Day 3: San José - Rodalquilar. To the North of the park are the Sierra de Gata mountains, with the craters of ancient volcanoes, surrounded by a lunar landscape and typical villages. Several famous western movies were filmed here, such as "for a fistful of dollars", "the good, the bad and the ugly". Lunch at the" Cortijo del Fraile: it's here where the events inspired Federico Garcia for his work “Bodas de Sangre” (The Blood Bride) took place. Dinner at a local seaside restaurant to enjoy a special menu of grilled fish. Return to your hotel.
Day 4: Rodalquilar - El Playazo - Cala del Cuervo. You ride to discover the eastern part of the Natural Park. You head to "la torre de los lobos" (the wolve tower), where you can enjoy the view over the whole natural park when the weather is clear, up to the snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada. You ride to "el playazo" beach, known since the Roman presence, which was a landmark for pirates. Return to your hotel.
Day 5: Rodalquilar - Old gold mine - Sierra de Gata - Rodalquilar. You take the old gold mine trail, straddling small ravines that were once the only connection between farms, between sea and mountain. You cross the crater of the volcano which now forms the Rodalquilar valley. You discover the cliffs which still hide gold today, and you visit the mine old installations which used to be in operation since 1933 and which finally closed in 1986. Return to your hotel.
Day 6: Rodalquilar - Las Negras- Rodalquilar. A long morning ride, of about 4 hours towards Las Negras, a beautiful place with many irrigated orchards, and an atmosphere of fishermen. At the bottom of its bay is El Cerro Negro (The Black Hill), an impressive rock formation that looks like a lava spit, witness to what was the Cabo de Gata Natural Park. Late lunch: a paella in a restaurant by the sea. In the afternoon, you can take a swim in the sea. Then, return to your hotel where you can enjoy the swimming pool and possibly book a massage or a spa (not included in the price) for you relax before dinner.
Day 7: Rodalquilar - La Isleta del Moro - San José. You leave Rodalquilar by a path that runs along the coast. These trails were once used to monitor the coast in the event of a pirate attack, which explains the presence of small castles and watchtowers. Picnic on the beach of Escullos, hidden behind its small oasis of palm trees. Night in a hotel in San José.

Antonio was our guide. He was very welcoming and knowledgeable.
Antonio was very good at matching the horses to the participants' needs, so safety was guaranteed.
My horse, Aixa. A gem in terms of behavior... very level-headed... the well-being of her rider is always a priority... very sure-footed... a sweetheart... beautiful gaits.
Superb equipment... trail saddle in excellent condition... truly great.
Three top hotels too.
I would have liked to ride for an extra hour each day, but otherwise it was a superb hike. Beautiful nature, great horses, and a great guide and companion to organize the picnics. Good hotels and good meals. I highly recommend it.
Cap Rando Services: As always, good service and superb responsiveness.
Lovely welcome from Anna and Antonio.
Safety: All good.
Beautiful horses, all in good condition. All very surefooted and responsive. Keen to gallop when asked.
Tack in good order. Very comfortable saddles. Well maintained and tidy tack room. Tack regularly cleaned and oiled.
Lovely hotels. Large airy rooms. Swimming pool at 2 of them. Luxury accommodation.
An adventurous holiday. Plenty of fast gallops. Fantastic scenery. Picnics provided every day were excellent. So much delicious food and drink. Evening meals were also wonderful.
Overall a very enjoyable week in the saddle. Certainly not a novice trail. The terrain is very rocky and stony and there are several fast gallops.
CAP RANDO services: All enquiries dealt with efficiently. Straightforward booking process.
Top guide.
My horse: Perfect Chili
New western saddle. I didn't manage to tame the stirrups: Sore ankles. The guide changed my saddle and stirrup without problem.
Very good all 3 hotels except perhaps the last one in terms of dinner. Comparatively, the 1st 2 were clearly above.
