Horseback riding in Andalusia : A special program designed to discover the Cabo de Gata natural park.
The Cabo de Gata Park is located in the south-east of Spain in the far south-east of Andalusia, in the Gulf of Almeria. The Cabo de Gata Park is one of the jewels of Andalusia, Spain and the Mediterranean, it is probably one of the few spaces of the Mediterranean coast that has remained wild. "Where the sun passes the winter": with approximately 2965 hours of sunshine, we can say that it is in this region of Andalusia that the sun passes the winter, with mild temperatures all year round. Small coves with crystal clear waters, ancient volcanoes converted into red lava mountains give the image of the Sierra de Gata, a lunar desert. Oasis of palm trees and small white fishing villages, remind us of the invasions of pirates. Here were shot famous adventure movies like Indiana Jones, Lawrence of Arabia, A fistful of Dollars.
A three-day progressive horseback ride, followed by three half days on a stationary tour. We highly recommend to have a car to visit and enjoy the local restaurants during the three half days during the stationary tour

HORSE RIDING TRIP IN ANDALUSIA
INDICATIVE ITINERARY *

Day 1: Meeting for your horseback riding in Andalusia. Transfer from Almeria airport or bus station to the equestrian center. Presentation of the ride. Dinner. Night in hotel in San José.

Day 2: SAN JOSÉ - GENOVAES BEACH - MONSUL BEACH - SAN JOSÉ.
randonnee a cheval en andalousieGenoveses, Monsul, Media Luna, and the Arrecife de las Sirenas (the mermaid reef) are undoubtedly the last wild Mediterranean beaches. With their white sand dunes, they served as film sets such as Indiana Jones, Lawrence of Arabia, "A fistful of Dollars". Picnic at the foot of the cortijo "el romeral", one of the typical facilities that used to be housing for farmers in the area. In the afternoon, you will ride up by the valley "del tesorillo". About 5 hours riding. Dinner. Night in hotel.

Day 3: SAN JOSÉ - RODALQUILAR
image-20220421184326-1North of the park are the mountains of the Sierra de Gata, which have preserved the boilers of the ancient volcanoes, surrounded by a lunar landscape and villages like "Los Albaricoques" where were shot several famous westerns: "For a handful of dolars "," The Good, the Bad and the Ugly ", etc ... The streets names are:" Clint Eastwood "," Sergio Leones "... Lunch in one of the most special sites of the park," el cortijo del Fraile " , where took place the events that inspired Federico Garcia for his work "Bodas de Sangre" (Blood Wedding). About 5.30 hours on horseback. Pace of the day: today the pace is a little slower because of the volcanic terrain. Despite this, you will enjoy the sandy "ramblas" to enjoy 2 gallops in the morning and 2 gallops in the afternoon. Dinner with grilled fish at the seaside in a local restaurant. Night in hotel.

Day 4: RODALQUILAR - LA ISLETA DEL MORO - SAN JOSÉ
You will leave Rodalquilar by a large path that borders the whole coast. These trails were once used to monitor the coast in case of pirate attack, which explains the presence of small castles and vigilance towers. Picnic on the beach of Escullos. About 5-5.30 horseback. Dinner. Night in Hotel.

Day 5:GENOVESES BEACH.
randonnee a cheval en andalousieGenoveses, with its white sand dunes, used to be the location for many movie shootings: Indiana Jones, Arabian Laurance… During this first day, you will discover an extraordinary landscape: undoubtedly the last wild beaches of the Mediterranean. Free lunch, afternoon and dinner.
About 3 hours on horseback the morning.

Day 6: THE PIRATE TRAIL.
You follow the trails on horseback along the cliffs of Cabo de Gata Natural Park, and discover the most spectacular views of the Mediterranean in the area. This ride passes through an old path that served as a connection between the castles and the watchtowers: indeed, during the 18th century, there were coast guards to prevent and protect in the event of a pirate invasion. Free lunch, afternoon and dinner.
About 3 hours on horseback the morning.

Day 7: THE VOLCANO VALLEY.
image-20240101104123-1To the North of the park, are the Sierra de Gata mountains, which have preserved the craters of ancient volcanoes, creating a lunar landscape. They were in action 15 to 16 million years ago. At the time, the population worked to irrigate this area, using this huge volcanic cone to collect rainwater which concentrates on its lower part, where the crops are located. You ride on the sides of the volcanoes and canter on the paths that lead from the volcanoes to the sea. Free lunch, afternoon and dinner.
About 3 hours on horseback the morning.

Elise (Switzerland) - January 2023

Main organizer, Manolo: warm and available . Carine our guide. Colorful character, extremely friendly, never short of anecdotes and information. Thanks to Julian for providing support for equipment and meals !
Mali. Sweet mare and pleasant character. Aging upholstery, however full equipment was available.
Hotel Doña Pakyta is very nice. Vast. The staff is very kind. The second hotel (Oro y Luz) did us no good for a last minute hot water issue.
Cap Rando is a great organization ! We had to make a phone call to find out and join the ride. Didier listens and responds instantly.

Carolie (France) - November 2019

« The guide is extremely kind and available to share his passion with us. Horses on top ! My mare (Habana) was very attentive, it is a real pleasure to ride a horse in these conditions. We feel that the horses are very well treated, and very well trained to be comfortable on all the paths taken. Very good saddlery, saddle bags at the front and back of the saddles to be able to take small stuff with us all day. Very good hotels, the rooms are very spacious. The restaurants in each of the hotels were also very good.
In summary: Excellent ride with a perfectly trained and comfortable cavalry. The guide is very pleasant, speaking French, English and Spanish to adapt to the needs of the group, and willingly sharing his knowledge of the surroundings but also of course the horses. Everything is perfectly organized so that you only have to worry about enjoying the horses, the landscapes and eating local ! I highly recommend.
Cap Rando services: Excellent relationship with Didier, very responsive to respond to all my requests. »
