Inn to Inn horseback trail ride in Spain. You will ride from the lovely town of Trujillo following North direction to the Monfragüe National Park, the largest and best preserved Mediterranean forest worldwide. The Monfragüe National Park is a wonderful place to visit for Mediterranean flora and ornithology. Located close to Trujillo, with the Tajo river running through it, the Monfragüe National Park is unique, it was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2003. Monfragüe takes its name from the Romans, who called it Mons Fragorum, the fragmented mountain. It is a typically Iberian landscape that provides a home for the Park’s incredibly diverse flora and fauna. Cork oaks, wild olives and holm oak trees are surrounded the National Park. The most popular birdwatching spot for visitors is the “Salto del Gitano”, a 300 meter cliff above the Tajo river. You will be able to admire the black storks, vultures, Egyptian vultures and imperial eagles ... just a few of the many birds that nest in the “Salto del Gitano”. The Park is also the site of Monfragüe Castle, an Arab construction. People have left many other marks on Monfragüe over the ages, with many prehistoric cave paintings.
HORSEBACK TRAIL RIDE IN SPAIN
INDICATIVE ITINERARY *
Day 1: Meeting at Madrid airport at 3pm, transfer to Trujillo (2 hours 1/2 drive). Time to visit to the spectacular town of Trujillo before the welcome dinner at the hotel with your guide who will introduce your week ride.
Day 2: Trujillo - Herguijuela - Torrecillas de la Tiesa. Distribution of horses. Easy day mording ride through open landscape with beautiful views of Trujillo town. lt is possible to see bulls, sheep, goats, in freedom in the countryside, when you're riding through the “Cañada Real Puerto de Miravete”. On this trip, you will ride through the “Cañadas reales”, Spanish medieval network, paths for cattle movement, 75 m wide, perfect for riding. Short afternoon ride through flat terrain to Torrecillas de la Tiesa, dinner and overnight a in rural hotel. About 6 hours riding.
Day 3: Torrecillas de la Tiesa - Jaraicejo. Departure after breakfast. You will ride by the cattle trail “Cañada Real” to Jaraicejo, a very nice medieval village in the National Park. Good trots and canters in the morning through the Dehesa where cattle can be seen everywhere: local cows, sheep, goats and iberic pigs. Dehesa is a multifunctional agrosylvopastoral system (a type of agroforestry). Used primarily for grazing, they produce a variety of products including non-timber forest products such as wild game, mushrooms, honey, cork and firewood. The tree component is oaks, usually holm (Quercus ilex) and cork (Quercus suber). Dehesa is an anthropogenic system that provides not only a variety of foods, also wildlife habitat for endangered species such as the Iberian lynx and the Spanish Imperial eagle and many birds.Lunch in the countryside. In the afternoon, you will cross the Almonte river on a medieval bridge. Dinner and night at rural hotel in Jaraicejo. About 6 hours riding.
Day 4: Jaraicejo - Torrejon El Rubio. Departure after breakfast. You will ride by the cattle trail to Torrejón el Rubio. Good trots and canters in the morning through the Dehesa. Another luxury picnic is waiting for you in a beautiful spot on your way. In the afternoon, riding through the Dehesa with great views of Sierra de Gredos in front of you. Dinner and night at a beautiful 4* hotel with a spa, where you will spend 2 nights. About 6 hours riding.
Day 5 : Torrejon El Rubio - Salto de Gitano - Torrejon El Rubio. Departure after breakfast. You will ride through the National Park to Salto del Gitano. You will cross the maximum protection area of the park, the National Park Reserve. For that, we need special authorization. You will get to the highest point in the Sierra de las Corchuelas, surrounded by oaks, unique and incomparable views to enjoy peace and pure nature. You can see the Tajo river canyon. Lunch beside the river Tajo and after lunch, time to visit the cliff “Salto del Gitano” to admire the black storks, vultures, Egyptian vultures and imperial eagles ... just a few of the many birds that nest in the “Salto del Gitano”. Ride back to Torrejón el Rubio, same hotel than previous night. Dinner at 4* hotel. About 5 hours riding.
Day 6: Torrejon El Rubio - Aldea del Obispo. This day is a beautiful ride from Torrejón el Rubio to Aldea del Obispo. You will ride through the “Cañada Real”. Lunch beside the Almonte river, an amazing enclave where the Cañada Real is crossing the river. In the afternoon, you will cross another medieval bridge in the middle of the countryside, a very remote place, over the river Tozo (affluent of Almonte river). Dinner and night at rural hotel in Aldea del Obispo. About 6 hours riding.
Day 7: Aldea del Obispo - Trujillo - Herguijuela. You will ride through the Cañada Real to Trujillo. Aldea del Obispo is located in the Dehesa of the Trujillo, where it is common to see slates outcrop. Lunch in the countryside with nice views of Trujillo town. After lunch, ride back to the first day starting place. Farewell dinner at your hotel. About 6 hours riding.
Day 8: Trujillo - Madrid airport. Breakfast at hotel, departure from Trujillo at 10 a.m., to be at Madrid Airport about 12.30 p.m.

DEPARTURE:
Sunday morning after breakfast. Free transfer to Madrid. Departure at 10 am. Arrival at 12:30 pm.
CAR RENTAL:
We recommend car rental, particularly cheap in Spain from 30 € per week), on the site www.autoeurope.fr.
RIDING LEVEL: 
This ride is only for good riders. You must be able to walk, trot, canter and galop outdoor on open spaces.
GUIDE:
Professional licensed guide. The guide speaks Spanish and English. An assitant follows by car preparing copious lunches.
RIDING TIMES:
5-6 hours per day on average.
HORSES:
Purebred Spanish, Hispano-Arabian and crossbreeds. Serene horses, result of an excellent natural education. Most of them are born and raised on the spot. They live in freedom and herd in vast pastures and pine forest.
TACK:
High quality English saddles with a silicone seat. All tack is in excellent condition, very comfortable for horses and riders.
ACCOMMODATION:
In comfortable hotels and guesthouses. Single bedroom available with supplement.
MEALS:
Taken every night in the hotels. For lunch, an assistant prepares local dishes served at the table: salads, barbecue, paella, fresh fruit, wine and coffee or tea.
LUGGAGE TRANSFERS:
The assistant transfers luggage every day.
