This ride starts and finishes in Trujillo, a historic town with a mix of cultures. Trujillo was originally founded in prehistoric times on a granite batholith, then became the Roman town of Turgallium before the Arabs built a spectacular castle above the town in the 10th century. Trujillo was the birthplace of Francisco Pizarro and his brothers, who conquered Peru, as well as Francisco de Orellana who was the first to navigate the Amazon river. Pizarro's statue stands in the main square (Plaza Mayor) and there are many beautiful palaces around the square which were built by the Spanish Conquistadors in the 16th century. This ride takes you through spectacular woodland, pasture and the Dehesa (Mediterranean forest) of holm and cork oaks: the emblematic landscape of the Extremadura. You also ride in the Villuercas Geopark which offers great footing for the horses.
HORSEBACK TRAIL RIDE IN SPAIN IN EXTREMADURA
INDICATIVE ITINERARY *
Day 1: Madrid – Trujillo. Meeting at Madrid airport at 3pm, transfer to Trujillo, 2 hours 1/2 drive. Time to visit the spectacular town of Trujillo before a welcome dinner at the hotel with your guide who will talk about the ride and the region on a map.
Day 2: Trujillo - Herguijuela - Garciaz. Transfer from Trujillo to Herguijuela where you will meet your horse. It is an easy day, is time to know your horse. Riding through the Dehesa, the Mediterranean forest. Comfortable lunch in the countryside with an excellent paella, cooked by us at the spot, good wines, salad, fresh fruit and coffee or tea with chocolate and biscuit. After lunch, short afternoon to Garciaz where the horses spend the night, and 15 mn transfer to Madroñera. Night and dinner at small and beautiful rural hotel. 4 hours riding.
Day 3: Garciaz - Berzocana. Beautiful views of the best preserved Mediterranean forests. The dominant species are the evergreen oaks, the holm or cork oaks and the deciduous oaks. Comfortable lunch in the countryside, always with starters, main course, salad, fresh fruit, coffee or tea with chocolate and biscuit; good wines, beer, refreshment: the cool box is always open to everyone. Afternoon with magnificent views of the Sierra de las Villuercas, you will ride to the Villuercas mountains in Berzocana, a beautiful small village in the mountains. Night and dinner at very nice rural hotel with spectacular sunsets over the Villuercas Geopark. 7 hours riding.
Day 4: Berzocana - Logrosan. You will be able to enjoy the view over the impressive Villuercas landscape, from the top of the mountains, with great mountainous views all around 360º. On any riding day, you can observe vultures, eagles, azure-winged magpies, red-billed choughs, shrikes and ravens. Villuercas has been declared Geopark (UNESCO, 2011) because of its cultural and natural heritage and, of course, the great geological value of its relief, with a lot of interesting and visible geological elements. Very rural region, fields with stone walls. Comfortable lunch in the countryside. Afternoon with nice canters. Night and dinner at nice rural hotel. 6 hours riding.
Day 5: Logrosan - Zorita. Nice trots and canters in the morning by the Dehesa. Cattle can be seen everywhere: cows, sheep, goats and iberic pigs. They still live in a way which is reminiscent of bygone days. After the luxury picnic, in the afternoon, nice canters to Zorita. Dinner at local restaurant, night at rural Inn. 6 hours riding.
Day 6: Zorita -Trujillo. You will ride in Dehesa Extremeña with long trots and canters to return to the beginning of the ride. After the lunch in the countryside, short afternoon to the horses place. Time in the afternoon to visit Trujillo town. Farewell dinner at the hotel. 4 hours riding.
Day 7: Breakfast, departure from Trujillo at 10 a.m., to be at Madrid Airport about 12.30 p.m.

DEPARTURE:
Saturday morning after breakfast. Free transfer to Madrid. Departure at 10 am. Arrival at 12:30 pm.

RIDING LEVEL: 
This ride is only for good riders. You must be able to walk, trot, canter and galop outdoor on open spaces.
GUIDE:
Professional licensed guide. The guide speaks Spanish and English. An assitant follows by car preparing copious lunches.
RIDING TIMES:
5-6 hours per day on average.
HORSES:
Purebred Spanish, Hispano-Arabian and crossbreeds. Serene horses, result of an excellent natural education. Most of them are born and raised on the spot. They live in freedom and herd in vast pastures and pine forest.
TACK:
High quality English saddles with a silicone seat. All tack is in excellent condition, very comfortable for horses and riders.
ACCOMMODATION: 
In comfortable hotels and guesthouses. Single bedroom available with supplement.
MEALS:
Taken every night in the hotels. For lunch, an assistant prepares local dishes served at the table: salads, barbecue, paella, fresh fruit, wine and coffee or tea.
LUGGAGE TRANSFERS:
The assistant transfers luggage every day.
