HORSE RIDE IN JORDAN
2018 INDICATIVE ITINERARY *

Day 1: Night at the hotel in Madaba (meal not included). Arrival at Amman airport and transfer to your hotel in Madaba. Two transfers are organized at fixed hours (19 and 23h).

Day 2 - Except June-July-August: Morning transfer to the nature reserve of Dana (about 2h30 drive), and discovery of this charming village dating back to the Ottoman (15th century), suspended above of the Wadi Araba valleys. A superb view of the nature reserve and its sandstone cliffs Further, appears the imposing Shobak castle, Formerly named "Royal Mountain", built in 1115 by Baudouin I. Then Christian city, Shobak sheltered 6000 Christians who succumbed to the Saladin assaults in 1189. Meeting with your horses and local team. Afternoon, trails and mountain tracks lead you to meet with shepherds. Far away, Israel and the Petra mountains ... Overnight camping.

Day 2 - In June-July-August, the warmer period: Transfer to Shobak, Formerly named "Royal Mountain", the place was built in 1115 by Baudouin I. Then Christian city, Shobak sheltered 6000 Christians who succumbed to the assaults of the Saladins in 1189. Meeting with your horses and local team. Trails and mountain tracks lead you to meet with shepherds. Far away Israel and the mountains of Petra ... Overnight camping.

Day 3: You are approaching Petra, the pink city of the Nabataeans. Horses with safe feet take you through narrow paths and cork oak forests. You arrive in Hishe for lunch, near a water point. Later in the day, discover "Little Petra". Former caravan relay, the site with its temple and parade dug into the sandstone gives you a taste of the great Nabataean cities. Overnight camping in Al Beidha whose ruins of the Neolithic village (about 9000 years) represent, with Jericho, one of the oldest archaeological sites of the Middle East.

Day 4: Today is dedicated to the visit of Petra on foot, classified by UNESCO as Humanity World Heritage. The site is beautiful and deserves that we take all the time necessary to admire it. In the Nabataean period, Arab people carved sandstone cliffs with shimmering and changing colors of extraordinary tombs. After a siq more than a kilometer long, the magic of a sunrise is coloring the facade of the "Khazneh", the treasure. Being the last in the evening to leave the canyon makes this moment magical. Night at the 'hotel.

Day 5: This morning, you will cross the small town of Wadi Musa (literally the "brook of Moses"). Wadi Musa is the city of horses. Between 300 and 400 horses live here. Livestock is still a family affair, and this remains the main source of income today. Meeting with local characters. In the late morning, you ride up to the plateau which rises at 1350m. Beautiful view of the whole site of Petra. Camp not far from Rajif.

Day 6: You continue your ride, leaving the mountains of Petra. Far behind you, the Jebel Haroun sheltering the supposed tomb of Aaron. The trails are stony. We descend slowly towards the steppe of Thogra. Overnight camping near a water point:"Birhamat".

Day 7: You cross the steppe of Thogra and these little wadi with syrupy names. In Wadi Heloua, "the sweet" in Arabic, the traces of a very old agriculture are still present in the steppe. Better terrain allows you to gallop. You cross very quickly the Amman / Aqaba axis before reaching the doors of the desert. Facing you: the slender mountains of Wadi Rum, a tiny northern part of the Arabian desert. Night in a camp near a natural sandstone arch.

Day 8: You spend this last day on horseback in Jordan riding in the direction of the south east, with good trails  that allow faster speeds, and some "Muds flat", large clay expanses for good gallops. You finish your ride at the stables of Wadi Rum. Transfer at the end of the day to Aqaba and overnight at the hotel.

Day 9: Transfer to the Red Sea for a relaxing day. Then transfer to Madaba in the evening, Overnight at the hotel.

Day 10: Breakfast and transfer to Amman airport. End of your stay in Jordan.
