HORSE RIDE IN JORDAN
INDICATIVE ITINERARY *

Day 1 (Saturday): Arrival in Jordan. Reception at Amman airport and transfer to the hotel in Madaba. Meeting and presentation of the team. Flight arrivals are generally late: dinner is not included. Night at the hotel in Madaba.

Day 2 (Sunday): Amman-Dana.
Morning transfer to the Dana nature reserve (approximately 2 hour drive). You first discover Dana, a charming little village dating from the Ottoman period (17th century), suspended above the valleys of Wadi Araba. A superb panorama of the nature reserve and its sandstone cliffs where some rare oryxes or mythical sand cats rub shoulders with the excavations of around a hundred archaeological sites. Lunch and meeting with the horses. Saddle up and start the horseback trail ride on sheep trails. You head towards the village of Shobak, Night camping or at a local family house.

Day 3 (Monday): Shobak - Hishe.
Early departure on horseback, in a wild and remote environment. In the distance appears the imposing Shaubak castle which you stop to visit. Formerly called “royal mountain”, the place was built in 1115 by Baudouin I. Then a Christian town, Shobak sheltered 6,000 Christians who succumbed to the attacks of the Saladins in 1189. In the afternoon, paths and mountain tracks lead you to meet the shepherds. In the distance: Israel and the mountains of Petra... Camping overnight.

Day 4 (Tuesday): You approach Petra, the pink city of the Nabataeans. Your sure-footed horse takes you through narrow paths and cork oak forests. You arrive in Hisheh for lunch near a watering hole. Later in the day, discovery of “Little Petra”. A former caravan relay station, the site with its temple and its parade dug into the sandstone gives you a taste of the great Nabataean cities. Night camping*** in Al Beidha whose ruins of the Neolithic village (approx. 9,000 years old) represent, with Jericho, one of the oldest archaeological sites in the Middle East. Night at the Seven Wonder bedouin comfort camp.image-20211208111425-1

Day 5 (Wednesday): Day dedicated to Petra visit, classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The site is splendid and deserves that we take all the time necessary to admire it. During the Nabatean era, these Arab people carved extraordinary tombs into the sandstone cliffs with their shimmering and changing colors. After a siq more than a kilometer long, the magic of a sunrise coloring the facade of “Khazneh”, the treasure... Being the last, in the evening, to leave the site ... an exceptional atmosphere emerges from this great archaeology place. Night at the hotel.

Day 6 (Thursday): Rajif - Birhammat.
The horses are transported a few kilometers, to avoid paths which are now asphalted. North of the city of Petra, in Rajif, a small village suspended above the mountains and the great Petra canyons. At the pace of the horses, you gently leave the mountains of Petra, in the distance behind you, Jebel Haroun sheltering the supposed tomb of Aaron. The tracks are stony. You descend slowly towards the Thogra steppe. Camping overnight near a “Birhamat” watering hole

image-20220407172507-1

Day 7 (Friday): Thora- Kharaze- Wadi Rum.
You cross the steppe of Thogra and small wadis with syrupy names. In Wadi Helwa, “the sweet one” in Arabic, traces of very ancient agriculture are still present in the steppe. The terrain becomes pleasant for the horses, which get exhilarated with lovely gallops. You cross the Amman/Aqaba axis very quickly, before arriving at the gates of the desert. In front of you: the soaring mountains of Wadi Rum, a tiny northern part of the Arabian Desert. Camping overnight near a natural sandstone arch..

Day 8 (Saturday): Kharaze- Um ishrin valley red sand valley.
You ride towards the south-east, on good tracks which allow faster paces. Some “Muds flat” or vast expanses of clay, are crossed to reach the D’um ishrin valley. Comfortable night in a bedouin camp.

Day 9 (Sunday): Night at hotel in Madaba.

Day 10 (Monday): Departure after breakfast, transfer to Amman airport.

OPTIONAL RED SEA & DEAD SEA EXTENSION:

Day 10 (Monday): Ghazali canyon - Lawrence source - Wadi Rum valley 7 pillars of wisdom.
You ride in the heart of the Wadi Rum, cross the large valleys to visit the source of Lawrence, the Ghazali canyon, and finish your trail ride in the Wadi Rum at the foot of the "7 pillars of wisdom". Transfer to Aqaba and swimming at a diving center on the Red Sea. In the city of Aqaba, stores and spice stalls, remain open image-20231014174834-1late into the evening to make your final shopping. GUEST REVIEWS
Capucine (France) - November2023

The guide, Sameeh, was very kind and professional. He paid great attention to the safety of all riders and horses. He was exemplary on this point. He really went out of his way to help each rider and make sure everyone was comfortable. He even found mounts for the rider who couldn't ride without them, even in the middle of the desert !! He also ensured safety on the first day to adapt the route to bad weather and avoid rain and wind, which irritated the horses.
Even if we did not meet the service provider, she was very available, answered all my questions very quickly, gave a lot of details, shared photos, which was really pleasant before the hike. I also really appreciated his phone call which allowed us to have “human” contact before registration.
My horse Ranjbar was wonderful, exactly the type of horse I like, calm but active with a long stride. The horses were very well cared for, no injuries, good mentality. Even the young horses (3-4 years old) were very good. Many thanks for the attribution.
The seet saver on the saddles were very useful ! It wasn't the most comfortable saddle because the seat wasn't very deep (not a trail ride saddle) but it did the job very well over 5 days.
I loved the Wadi Rum Bedouin camp. This is exactly what I was looking for. I was afraid at first of coming across a big tourist camp, but this one was perfect, warm and family-friendly, with an incredible view and rare tranquility. The only downside would be that there was no top sheet, we slept directly with the big blankets and I doubt that they are washed each time (and if that is the case, it must require a lot of water). Recommendation would simply be to add sheets (Cap Rando answer: a comfort ++ version is offered with sheets forwarded). The Seven Wonder camp in Petra was nice too, with delicious food, but more impersonal because there are more rooms. The hotel in Madaba was nice, not a lot of charm but nice staff, nice swimming pool and pleasant breakfast.
A very good trail ride with great horses, a great group and a kind and professional guide, who ensures the safety and comfort of the riders and horses. We all loved Wadi Rum, especially the beautiful canters in magical landscapes. The accommodations were comfortable, with a magical atmosphere, especially in the Wadi Rum. Admiring the stars after the ride was wonderful. We will remember our great evenings with bedouin music for a long time ! We liked the Petra part less because the landscapes on horseback were not extraordinary, given that we were not able to go to Little Petra (main disappointment of the trip, but which only depends on the weather and not on the guide, who did his best to adapt the program). Ideally we should have been able to move the day to Little Petra at the end of the ride, when the sun was back. Personally, I found that the riding days were too short because I like sporty rides. The first day in Wadi Rum, only 3h30 on horseback, the 2nd day Wadi Rum 4h30, the last day 2h30... And one last point which has nothing to do with Cap Rando and the service provider, but which reminded me marked: the dirt of Wadi Rum! What a shame that this beautiful place is invaded by waste because of tourists and poor management of the camps! I sincerely hope that the Jordanian government will find a solution to improve cleanliness. The Jordan Pass should be subject to the successful completion of a test on ecological reflexes !!

Sophie (France) - October 2023

Great team, Manu, Sameeh, Ahmed, Hamdi... Foresighted, available, passionates.
Horses in great shape. My mare Gamar was wonderful.
Comfort: Perfect in Normal Comfort formula !
I came back delighted with my trip !
Cap Rando services: Very good, responsive +++

Sorin (France) - March 2023

rando cheval JordanieA ride which turns very well, under control. It is sometimes necessary to ask and clarify some details: type organization of the days / program, the transfers. If not, very nice team, very good horses. To recommend !
Very focused on safety. Nothing to say.
My horse: Amir ! A great horse, which responds to all commands without problems. Some elements of the tack can be renewed. But overall ok.
Very good meals, comfort ok. Always possibilities for improvement, as of running water, sometimes there was no cold water... so washing only with very hot water... difficult
Very nice ride, to do with your eyes closed, but keep them open for the landscapes. ! ;)
Cap Rando services: Very good follow-up, with all the details given on time and even better, having the local contact, to exchange directly. Maybe improve the website with the description of the daily rides: progressive or not. Provide information on local specificities (of the Ramadan type period, etc.).

Marine (France) - Camping option - October 2022

Very caring welcome, we had nothing to manage, only to let ourselves be carried away.
Marmoud (the guide) and Amhed (his partner) are very welcoming, caring and available. We share real beautiful moments of exchange. Marmoud perfectly manages the safety of riders.
The horses are in very good condition and the guide really takes care of them. We feel that he loves them, that he preserves them as much as possible during the week, that he takes care of them. He is very vigilant about their condition, gives them time to recover, they are well fed and pampered.
Saddle with sheepskin provided, top comfort !
We ate very well. The night under the stars is spartan, but that's exactly what you're looking for in this kind of experience !
Management of my registration by Cap Rando Cheval: Smooth follow-up, perfect travel file, nothing to complain about !
In short: A magical ride, far from everything, where only serenity reigns. A week full of meetings, discoveries, local and gourmet dishes, exchanges, laughter, sensations, freedom. We take full eyes and full heart. Happiness !
