HORSE RIDING WEEK IN ANDALUSIA
INDICATIVE ITINERARY *
Day 1 (Sunday): Meet directly at your hotel in San José at 7:30 p.m. Or transfer from Almeria airport to your hotel. Hiking tour introduction, dinner, and overnight stay at a hotel in San José.
Day 2 (Monday): Indiana Jones Beaches. Horses will be assigned and prepared after breakfast at 9:30 a.m. in San José (a 5-minute walk from the hotel). Departure for the horseback trail ride to the beaches of Genoveses, Mónsul, and Media Luna, where scenes from "Indiana Jones," "Lawrence of Arabia," and "A Fistful of Dollars" were filmed. After a picnic, return to San José via the Tesorillo Valley.
Day 3 (Tuesday): San José - Rodalquilar.
Your destination for the day is Rodalquilar, to the north. The trail ride crosses the Sierra de Gata and its lunar landscapes dotted with ancient volcanic craters, with a stop in the small village of Los Albaricoques, where the famous scenes from A Fistful of Dollars and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly were filmed.
Picnic at Cortijo del Fraile, one of the park's emblematic sites, where the events that inspired Federico García to write Blood Wedding took place.
Day 4 (Wednesday): Rodalquilar: The Mines. Heading northwest along the old gold mining road, you'll cross small ravines that once formed the only link between the mountain farms and the sea. You'll cross the crater of the volcano that now forms the Rodalquilar Valley, following a series of mineral walls that still preserve some traces of gold. The route leads to the original mining facilities, which operated from 1933 to 1986.
Day 5 (Thursday): Rodalquilar - Isleta del Moro - San José
Back in San José, the trail winds along the coast, lined with 18th-century watchtowers offering magnificent views and a palm grove. These watchtowers were used to monitor the coast in case of pirate attacks. Picnic on Los Escullos Beach, near the San Felipe Fort.
Day 6 (Friday): Tabernas Desert: In the footsteps of Clint Eastwood.
In the heart of the Tabernas Desert, nicknamed the Spanish Hollywood, we explore canyons once roamed by legends such as Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, and Eli Wallach. The setting is reminiscent of Arizona and the Sonoran Desert in Mexico. In the 1960s, this location served as the setting for famous spaghetti westerns.
Day 7 (Saturday): Tabernas Natural Park: The desert where Lawrence of Arabia was filmed.
Horseback riding in Andalusia. Heading south, we follow the oasis canyon, with its surprisingly scattered streams, to the oasis where Lawrence of Arabia was filmed. From there, we head to Fort Bravo to gallop through its streets and watch the sheriff catch the bandits who robbed the bank.
Picnic at Fort Bravo, near the Mexican town.
