TRAIL RIDE IN ANDALUSIA
INDICATIVE ITINERARY *
Day 1: Meeting in the late afternoon at Granada airport or directly at your hotel in Guadix. Welcome by your guide and presentation of your week.
Day 2: Lugros- Shepherds Trail- La Pantaneta - Lugros.
After a good breakfast, you drive to the equestrian facilities (15 minutes), to get to know the horses. This first day, you adapt to your horse. You follow an easy path with wonderful views of the plateau (at an altitude of 1200m). You take the “Shepherd trail” which crosses thick pine forests. The density of these forests, the silence of the path and the tranquility of the environment allow you to discover the almost magical nature of this place. You arrive at “La Pantaneta”: a small lake surrounded by mountains formed by the melting snow of the Sierra Nevada. Then you ride to Lugros, and from there drive back to your hotel: relax at the spa or go for a walk in town.
Day 3: Lugros - Camarate - Lugros.
After a good breakfast, transfer to the horses. You leave on horseback to enjoy the gentleness of these mountains by easy trails used in the past for the cattle moving. They allowed the inhabitants of this region to drive their cows and their “toros bravos” to the green meadows of the high mountains, called “El Camarate”. It is a special place that mixes vast meadows with trees of Atlantic origin. Site named “the enchanted forest”, because it seems that one can feel the presence of gnomes or fairies. Then you descend to Lugros and drive back to your hotel. Relax at the hotel or go and enjoy excellent tapas in a lively bar !
Day 4: Lugros - Jerez del Marquesado - Lugros.
After breakfast, transfer to the horses. You cross the white streets of Jerez del Marquesado to head towards the “Picón”, one of the highest mountains of Sierra Nevada (summit at 3090m) climbing up to 2000m above sea level. You find small streams and waterfalls, which lead the water that comes from the mountains to the eternal snows. You travel the same paths as the miners of Santa Constanza for many years. Then you descend to Lugros and return to your hotel. Relax or go visit the pleasant historic center of Guadix.
Day 5: Lugros – Valle del Zalabí – Lugros.
After breakfast, transfer to the horses. You go on horseback down from the plateau (1200m) towards the Zalabí valley, crossing a green landscape, surrounded by cultivated fields. In another era (Andalousí), they were occupied by mulberry trees which fed the silkworms needed to make the robes of the Muslim sultans who lived in Andalusia. Then you go to Lugros and return to hotel.
Day 6: Lugros – Fin del Mundo – Lugros.
On this last day riding, you are going to discover, without a doubt, one of the most spectacular spaces in Sierra Nevada: the “End of the World”. This red clay valley, reminiscent of the Grand Canyon, was formed in the Quaternary by the thawing waters of the Sierra Nevada, and shelters in its walls many inhabited caves. Still more than 4,000 people live there. You return to the Lugros Equestrian Facilities where you say goodbye to your horse before returning to the hotel.
Day 7: End of your horseback riding in Andalusia after breakfast. Possible transfer to Granada. We advise you to extend your stay in Andalusia and visit the city and the Alhambra. Ask your guide on site to book tickets for the visit.
